Aiming at checking Jewish immigration to Palestine, three Arab states–Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon–today filed a request with U.N. Secretary Trygve Lie that the agenda of the General Assembly be enlarged to in-clude an item urging international cooperation “for the prevention of immigration which is likely to diaturb friendly relations between nations.”
The request was presented immediately after Yemen and Pakistan were syorn in as members of the United Natione at the Asnembly session this morning. The two new Moslem members are now entitled to “immediate participation” in the meetings of the General Assembly and its committees.
The anti-immigration request of the Arab countries will be submitted by the U.N. Secretariat to the 14–nations Steering Committee which has the power to recommend that the Assembly consider or reject consideration of this motion at the current session.
