Imperialism was “responsible” for the creation of Israel and for providing the Jewish State “with all the necessary means to attack the Arabs and threaten them in their homes.” Rafiq Bachour, head of a Syrian delegation which recently visited the USSR, Poland and Czechoslovakia, said at a press conference at Moscow, the Damascus Radio announced today.
The Arab announcer, heard here, said that Bachour called for “friendly nations” to help the Arab states get rid of Israel. “As long as Israel exists in our midst, nurtured by imperialism with money and arms, we shall continue to feel that our safety and that of the entire Middle East is threatened, ” he continued. Protesting the Arabs love of the Jews, he said they only hate Zionism, which he defined as an “imperialist fascist movement.”
Tass, the official Soviet news agency, reporting the same press conference, noted that Bachour had thanked the USSR for using its veto power at the Security Council “to frustrate imperialist plots which were designed to violate our right and dignity.”
