The Times of London reported from Kuwait today that Arab guerrilla bands operating in Jordan were raising money in the oil rich Persian Gulf states. The paper said a group of young guerrilla recruits ranging in age from 10 to 16 were sent to Kuwait from training camps in Jordan to put on a demonstration of commando tactics and to solicit funds. “It may be just play acting…but parts of the display had a sad resemblance to the dedicated nationalist antics of the Hitler youth,” the Times report said.
The Guardian commented today that an apparent growing understanding between the United States and Russia on the Middle East holds out hopes of reducing tensions. But when the time comes for a settlement, “the Palestinians will have to be in the center of the stage,” the paper said.
