The U.N. Conciliation Commission for Palestine announced tonight that peace talks with delegations from Israel and f our Arab states, which were to start today, will begin here tomorrow. The postponement is due to the fact that the delegations did not arrive in time.
Delegates from Egypt, Syria and Lebanon arrived today while the Israeli delegation was expected late tonight or tomorrow morning. A fourth Arab delegation from Transjordan has not been heard from.
The three members of the Conciliation Commission could give no indication as to how long the talks, aimed at transforming the present Palestine truce into a permanent peace, may last. A spokesman said the Commissioners will first attempt to obtain Arab and Jewish agreement on the future of the Palestine Arab refugees. The second problem will concern the future status of Jerusalem. If these two questions are settled, the conference may also discuss permanent frontiers for Israel, the spokesman added.
The Commission members said they would hold separate exploratory talks with the Israeli envoys tomorrow morning and with each of the Arab delegations in the afternoon.
