The Mufti of Jerusalem is understood to have stated in private conversations that he will decline to participate in the proposed Legislative Council and in addition will forbid members of the Mejlessein Party, which he leads, to support it.
The Mufti’s opposition, it is believed, derives from the report that Ragheb Bey Nashashibi, former mayor of Jerusalem, is slated to receive a high position in the Council, probably that of vice-president, and that High Commissioner Wauchope himself will preside over all sessions of the body.
