United Nations Secretary General Kurt Waldheim has received a request from the Arab League for postponement of the scheduled opening of the General Assembly’s debate on the Palestine Question from Nov. 7 to Nov. 13, a UN spokesman said today. The spokesman said that Waldheim, who received the request from Arab League Secretary Mahmoud Riad, would begin consultations on the request which is expected to be approved.
SADAT REJECTS U.S. PROPOSAL
It was reported from Cairo, meanwhile, that Egyptian President Anwar Sadat has rejected an American proposal for further negotiations on an Israeli withdrawal from Egyptian territory captured in 1967. Sadat was quoted as telling Egyptian
Kissinger, in Bangladesh today, said he did not believe the Arab summit meeting in Rabat had foreclosed further Arab-Israeli peace talks but he would hold further discussions with Arab leaders to determine how best to proceed. Reports from Dacca said that Kissinger was planning “a salvage mission” to the Middle East at the end of his current trip to shore up the sagging prospects of further peace talks. The Secretary was quoted as saying that he does “not believe that the door to all negotiations in the Middle East is closed, but what negotiations and in what framework, that will have to be seen.”
