The Arab League Council, meeting on ambassadorial level in Cairo, adjourned its session last night without reaching any agreement on the proposal by the United Arab Republic that all Arab nations sever diplomatic relations with Iran in retaliation for the Shah’s reiteration of his de facto recognition of Israel.
The entire issue was left open for decision by the Arab League Council meeting scheduled to take place in Beirut, Lebanon, August 22nd. Yesterday’s session was limited to a strong anti-Iranian speech by the representative of the United Arab Republic and to mild speeches by representatives from other Arab countries who expressed hope that the Iranian Government may be persuaded to change its attitude toward Israel.
