Arab League officials are spreading reports that “the Zionists will try to occupy the whole of Palestine” and that Israel plans to attract American capital for local industry in order “to dominate the Middle East economically.”
The London Herald, organ of the Labor Party, today carries a report to this effect attributing it directly to Abdul Rahman Azzam Pasha, secretary-general of the Arab League. The paper urges that Britain pay more attention to developments in the Middle East, and especially to Egypt.
The Manchester Guardian reports today from Cairo that former Egyptian Premier Ismail Sidky Pasha, who advocates a reduction of Egyptian expenditures on military preparations to enable increased outlays for social services within Egypt, is not making much headway in his campaign. Supporters of a large military program, the report says, argue that “the danger of future Zionist aggression” must be taken into consideration.
