Syrian Premier Jamil Mardan said here today that the Palestine question will be raised at the United Nations should the London conference fail to satisfy the Arabs.
Mardan, who is one of the most influential figures in the Arab League, said that the Arab delegations have been instructed to oppose partition and any other schemes for establishment of a Jewish state. They will also ask the British to halt Jewish immigration, he added.
(Arab delegates in London seem split on the advisability of submitting the Palestine issue to the U.N. Jamal Husseini, head of the Palestine delegation, said today that the Palestine Arabs were prepared to go to the U.N. if the conference collapsed. Other Arab delegates, however, said that taking the issue to the U.N. would mean a long delay, and they also voiced doubts as to whether the international body could take any effective action to solve the impasse.)
