Plans for an Arab unversity in Jerusalem, similar in scope to the Hebrew University, have been added to the agenda of the Arab League, it was reported here today by reliable sources.
Meanwhile, a controversy has arisen as a result of a statement issued here by Chief Rabbi Haim Nahoum, thanking Police Chief Fitzpatrick Pasha for the protection given Jews during last month’s riots. The opposition, headed by the nationalist newspape Al Balagh, has protested this action, claiming that the rabbi ignored the Minister of the Interior and addressed a British subordinate. The pro-government paper Al Dastur calls this outburst, “misplaced nationalism.” adding that the Rabbi had first conveyed his thanks to the proper authorities.
