The International (Pan Arab) Congress of Syria’s ruling Baath, Socialist, Party today urged leftist Arab countries to join forces to bring about a “speedy showdown with Israel.”
In a lengthy policy statement, the Congress warned that time is running against the Arabs in the conflict with Israel. The statement stressed that the time was now ripe for military action, and urged “progressive Arab regimes to take speediest measures to effect a Pan-Arab liberation war against Israel.”
The statement was broadcast on the eve of the departure for Cairo of Syrian Premier Yusef Zayyen for talks with Egyptian leaders on military coordination of the two countries in dealing with Israel.
