Eight Jewish shops in the city of Kairouan, central Tunisia, were looted by an Arab mob this Sunday, the New York Times today reported in a cable from Tunis. The incident was part of demonstrations throughout Tunisia which have led to clashes between the French security forces and Arab nationalists protesting French control of Tunisia. The Times report adds that the news about the plundering of Jewish stores in Kairouan caused concern in both French and responsible Arab nationalist circles in Tunis.
