The formidable Arab propaganda machinery in Canada appeared to be split today following the election of George Haggar, a leftist political science professor from Jordan, as the new president of the 80,000-member Canadian Arab Federation. The group’s annual convention at London, Out., was boycotted by former members of its executive committee who feared a left-wing take-over. Sponsorship of the convention was left to the local committee and attendance was much smaller than anticipated. Prof. Haggar was Joined in his denunciation of Israel and other alleged enemies of the Arabs by a dissident Israeli citizen, Issi Cohen, who lives in Boston. Mr. Cohen said he represented an Israeli socialist organization which opposes Zionism and imperialism (Matzpen). He compared Israel to South Africa.
