Arab leaders in the United States today indicated that they are considering having the Palestine issue raised before the United Nations Security Council by Arab states which are members of the United Nations on the basis that the present situation in Palestine is a threat to the peace of the Middle East.

At the headquarters of the U.N. a spokesman for Secretary-General Trygve Lie declared: “The present situation in Palestine is certainly a threat to peace in the Middle East. There can be no doubt of that. Therefore, the Palestine question definitely comes under the jurisdiction of the Security Council.”

Under the Charter, any member of the United Nations can call the attention of the Council to a situation threatening international peace and security. The same power also is vested in Secretary-General Lie.
