The Arab stop-page of business and all activity in connection with the proclamation of today as “Palestine Day” by the Arab Executive is seventy-five percent effective. The police report that no untoward events are expected. Women vegetable hawkers brought their produce into Jerusalem as usual but there was no movement of villagers towards Jerusalem.
Major Wainright, police superintendent, expects that all Arab shops will reopen after the evening prayers. There will be no assembly at the Mosque beyond the usual Friday congregation but the mass meeting at the Moslem school will be held as planned. The Arab Executive is pressing all Arab shopkeepers and workers to strike and is threatening Christians in Bethlehem with a boycott if they do not join.
