Ten Bedouins have been arrested for breaking down the fences on land belonging to Mr. Asher Pierce, a prominent Canadian Zionist, who is at the head of several important Palestine economic enterprises, including Gan Chaim, the settlement founded in honour of Dr. Weizmann.
The Bedouins pitched their tents on the land, which is situated near Tel Mond, the orange plantations conducted by Palestine Plantations, founded by the late Lord Melchett. The Bedouins also prevented the Jewish labourers on the land from doing their work.
Similar trespassing has occurred on adjoining land belonging to a Hungarian Jew, named Montor.
About 800 eucalyptus trees have also been uprooted on Jewish National Fund land in the Haifa Bay area. The tracks of the vandals lead to the village of Shafrarm, but no arrests have yet been made.
2,500 young trees were uprooted on Jewish National Fund land near Nahalal a month ago, on January 26th. Several Bedouins were arrested on suspicion, but nothing could be proved against them, and they were released.
In December Bedouins pitched their tents on Jewish National Fund land in the Vady Havarith and obstructed the work of the Jewish ploughers. Finally the Government leased port of the land from the Jewish National Fund for the Bedouins.
