The Supreme Court today struck a blow at the Government’s emergency measure of imposing collective fines on Arab villages when it granted the village of Gaza an injunction restraining the Government from enforcing collection of a $5,000 fine as punishment in connection with disorders there.
The court issued a summons calling on Assistant District Commissioner Aubrey Lees to appear and explain imposition of the fine.
Scattered Arab disorders meanwhile continued in their third month.
Shabbetai Epstein, 29, manager of an orange grove near Rishon-le-Zion, was found dead this morning in an orchard. It has not yet been established whether he was murdered by Arabs or died as the result of an accident.
