A 25-year-old Arab construction worker has won IL 2,2 million (about $300,000) in the weekly Sportoto soccer pool, the largest prize ever awarded in the lottery’s 17-year history. The winner, Abu Nader, is the father of three small children, and lives in the village of Sakhnin on the Acre-Safad road.
Abu Nader, who invested just IL 12 (about $1.30) in the pool, said that he will use the money to build a metal workshop in his village so that villagers will no longer have to travel long distances for jobs. He said he has little knowledge of soccer and just made guesses on who would win the games on Saturday. The huge sum was the accumulation of funds for the previous three weeks when there were no winners.
