A step toward Arab-Jewish political cooperation to meet common economic needs was made by the Arab population of Beersheba.
The Arabs of Beersheba have requested Jewish leaders of Jerusalem to join them in their action to prevent the Palestine railway administration from discontinuing the Beersheba-Rafa railway line, which would threaten the economic interests of the Beersheba region. The railway administration decided to discontinue the line in view of the fact that it was operated under a deficit.
When the announcement was made that the line was to be distinued, the population of Beersheba declared a strike.
