Emulating Samson’s Bible-famed feat of loosing foxes with torches tied to their tails in the Philistines’ cornfields Arabs have enlisted turtles in their campaign of guerilla warfare against the Jews and the Government.

Considerable head-scratching was caused among British soldiers guarding fields in the Nablus district at the sight of what seemed to be candles moving slowly through the darkness under their own power.

Patrols investigating increasing incendiarism finally caught several turtles “red-handed” with tapers tied to their backs and the mystery was solved.

The Book of Judges recounts how Samson tied torches to the tails of 300 foxes and turned them loose in the Philistines’ fields to raze their crops.
