Mordecal Glassner, 22-year-old theological seminary student, was killed here today by a bullet from an Arab Legionnaire while fighting a blaze in the Paagi quarter of this city on the edge of the No-Man’s Land which separates the Israeli section of the city from the Jordanian side.
Glassner, along with other students from his seminary, had volunteered for three days civil defense work in the Paagi quarter. When shots from across the demarcation line, originating in a former British police depot, set fire to some weeds, Glassner rushed to extinguish the blaze. There was a renewed burst of firing from the Arab Legionnaires on the Jordanian side, and the young seminarian was killed instantly.
