A decree issued here by the Emir Abdullah prohibits carrying weapons on the streets of this city. Hitherto it has been the custom of the population to wear shotguns and other weapons strapped around the waist.
The decree is intended to prevent clashes between rival political parties. Soldiers, police and members of the Emir’s retinue are exempt from the new law.
Shotguns used in hunting will require their owners to hold licenses. Bedouins coming in from the open spaces, where weapons are carried for protection, will be required to deposit their weapons with the local police.
