Arabs opposed to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process met in Damascus to reaffirm their support for the clauses in the Palestinian charter that call for Israel’s destruction. Speakers at the conference, which included representatives of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah, also called for the continuation of the armed struggle against Israel. The conference came just days before members of the Palestine National Council were scheduled to affirm a letter Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat sent to President Clinton in January declaring that the anti-Israel clauses in the Palestinian charter are null and void.
