Arabs opened a mortar attack this afternoon on Jerusalem’s Jewish residential district of Rehavia hours before the expiration of the truce. Twenty shells fell in the center of Rehavia and a number of Jews were reported injured.
Shortly before the attack Bernard Joseph, chairman of the Jewish Emergency Committee, announced that a sufficient quantity of food and fuel is available for distribution to the city’s 100,000 Jews should hostilities resume tomorrow, but added that the water supply situation is not promising.
(The Arab League today announced in Cairo that it has ordered Arab forces in Jerusalem to observe the cease-fire only in the Old City which is populated now almost entirely by Arabs.)
