An eleventh hour attempt by Sir Herbert Samuel to induce the Arabs to give up their opposition to the elections for members of the Legislative Council has failed, it is learned. The High Commissioner called members of the Executive Committee of the Moslem-Christian Union to officially advise them that the elections had been fixed for from February 20 to 28.
To the high Commissioner’s request for cooperation, Moussa Kazim Pasha, Chairman of the Arab Committee, replied they intended using all legitimate means to boycott the elections, undertaking, however, to use no coercion against Arabs wishing to vote. Sir Herbert Samuel undertook on his part that the Government would not force anyone to vote.
