The works at Machanaim in the cave, in which an archaeological discovery was made recently, have been carried out by Messrs. I. Ben-Zvi and L. Sukenik, under the direction of Professor Slousch, acting on behalf of the Jewish Archaeological Society, to which the works were delivered by the Government.
Three rooms have been discovered inside, and in them seven tombs with ossuaries, most of them untouched. Beautiful pictures are to be seen on some of the tombs, and on one of the tombs ## Hebrew inscription of the period preceding the destruction of the Temple. Also fragments of loam utensils of that period and an iron nail have been found. The results of the work will be published shortly in the second volume of the Jewish Archaeological Society, edited by Professor Slousch.
