A team of archaeologists began digging today in Jordan territory in search of a document giving the location of about 200 tons of “gold, silver rings, bracelets and jewelry” mentioned in one of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The recently deciphered scroll indicated that some 2,000 years ago Jewish communities fleeing from invaders buried large treasures in various places. The scroll hinted that the Jews also buried an index giving the key to the location of the buried treasures.
The Jordanian Department of Antiquities jointly with the American Institute of Oriental Studies started widespread excavations in Jordan-held sections of the Dead Sea region.
