The Argentine Ministry of Transport has decided to name a station near Basavilbaso, in Entre Rios Province, in memory of Alberto Gerchunoff, an Argentine Jewish poet whose works abounded in descriptions of the region. Gerchunoff, who died two years ago, was one of Argentina’s leading poets. The Basavilbaso area is heavily settled by Jews who came to this country years ago under Jewish Colonization Association schemes.
