The work of the Jewish farmers in Argentina and the achievements of the Jewish Colonization Association there were lauded by the Governor of Entre Rios province, General Humberta Sosa Molina, during a visit to the Avigdor settlement, one of the newest colonies, whose settlers are mainly Jewish refugees brought by the JCA from Germany shortly before the outbreak of the war.
“Seeing your work on the land,” the governor declared in a speech to the settlers, “I am happy to find it a confirmation of my impression that the opinion that Jews can act only as businessmen is wrong. At the same time, I find that the colonization work accomplished by the J.C.A. is a serious and patrictic accomplishment. You may continue your task in peace with the assurance that on this land no restrictions and privileges of any kind exist and that all inhabitants are considered on the same level of complete equality.”
