A group of Argentine writers and professionals protested today against the executions of alleged Israeli and American spies in Baghdad this week and demanded that the Iraqi government permit its Jewish minority to leave that country. The Committee for the Defense of Jewish Rights in Arab States sent a letter to President Al Bakr, of Iraq condemning “the act of barbarity consummated in Iraq.” The committee called the executions “an echo of terror and shame which has spread all over the world.”
The committee is headed by the noted Argentine writer, Jorge Luis Borges. It includes prominent lawyers, doctors, political figures, and scientists.
