An appeal by new Israeli ambassador Eliezer Doron to Jewish journalists to “exercise greater restraint” in reporting news affecting Israel or other Jewries drew a critical reaction today from the newsmen.
The envoy made his appeal in his first meeting with the journalists. Most of them expressed astonishment and said they considered themselves fully responsible and had hitherto relied on their own judgment. They asked the ambassador to display greater confidence in their handling of news.
