A resolution to join the World Union of General Zionists was adopted at the first convention of the Argentine Federation of General Zionists, held here earlier this month.
The convention also voted to abide by the decisions of the majority at the world congress of General Zionists when that gathering takes place. At the same time the Argentine conference expressed the wish that the world conclave be held simultaneously with the next Zionist World Congress and that both take place in Palestine.
The full name of the General Zionist group of Argentina will henceforth be “Zionist Federation of Argentina; Affiliated with the World Union of General Zionists.”
Criticism of both the Socialist and Revisionist Zionists was expressed in the course of the convention debates, in which the point was made that the General Zionists were the only true heirs of Herzl Zionism. The same position was expressed in a manifesto issued after the convention. The document is addressed to “the national Jews of Argentina” and declares that “General Zionism represents the pure and original national aspirations of the Jewish people.” The manifesto appeals to young Jews in particular to join the General Zionist Federation, and stresses the point that the General Zionists “strive towards peace and cooperation with all sister parties and groups, on the basis of mutual tolerance and respect.”
The manifesto is signed by N. Gesang, president of the General Zionist Federation of Argentina; Dr. Z. Nichbenzon, vice-president; Joseph Lutzki, director, and R. Rilov, secretary.
