An annual budget of 126,000 pesos (about $53,000) to carry on immigrant aid work was voted by the Jewish immigration Congress which closed its sessions here Friday. The deliberations lasted three days and were participated in by representatives of various Jewish communal institutions in Argentine and in neighboring countries in South America.
A nation-wide organization to provide immigrant relief was set up.
The Congress adopted resolutions of thanks to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society of America, the Jewish Colonization Association and the Emigdirekt, United Jewish Emigration Committee of Berlin, for their cooperation in immigrant welfare work. A special resolution of thanks was adopted for the delegation of the Hicem, a combination of the three above-mentioned organizations, who are now visiting South America surveying conditions.
The second annual award of the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopedic Scholarship of $2400 yearly, left by the late Dr. Henry W. Franenthal, founder of the Hospital was given to a member of the intern graduating staff. Dr. David Sashin, he having showed aptitude for advanced orthopedic works.
The scholarship affords six months study in the large orthopedic clinics in the United States and six months in Europe. Upon completion of his studies a report is to be sent to the Hospital for Joint Diseases.
