Dr. Carlos Adrogue, Argentine Interior Minister, reiterated today his pledge to take all possible measures to prevent the recurrence of the spate of anti-Semitic incidents which have taken place in recent weeks.
The Argentine member of the Cabinet repeated his pledge, made originally in a nation-wide radio and television address on July 3, in a letter to Dr. Isaac Goldenberg, president of the DAIA, the central body of Argentine Jewry. Dr. Goldenberg had sent a letter to Dr. Adrogue, expressing the appreciation of Argentine Jewry for the earlier statement.
“I thank you for the trust which I have evoked in you,” the Minister wrote. “I repeat on this occasion that I will avoid by all means at my command the aggressions which degrade Argentine citizens and offend our fatherland. I made that statement on behalf of the Government and I ask you to be assured that the Government will be inflexible.”
Jewish community leaders, commenting on Dr. Adrogue’s letter, said they hoped that the Government would act in accordance with the pledge to suppress any future acts of anti-Semitic violence.
