Ariel Sharon said the United Nations should not adopt resolutions on issues that will be discussed during final-status negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The Israeli foreign minister was alluding to the possibility that the U.N. General Assembly would approve the declaration of a Palestinian state May 4, 1999, the conclusion of the five-year interim period set forth under the Oslo accords.
