Governor Orval Faubus today attacked the National States’ Rights Party, which nominated him for the U.S. Presidency in 1960, for its defense of Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann. Governor Faubus said the party’s newspaper, “The Thunderbolt,” was “ridiculous” in terming the Eichmann trial “a giant propaganda hoax.”
The Arkansas Governor said he had first hand experiences with Nazi atrocities during World War II when he served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. 35th Infantry Division. He said he could personally testify that the Germans burned innocent victims to death. He added that the atrocities of which Eichmann stands accused in Israel were no “hoax” and that his own unit had viewed the evidence of Eichmann’s crimes. Governor Faubus termed the defenders of Eichmann in Arkansas “misguided fools or deliberate liars.”
