The mixed Israel-Syrian armistice commission today ruled that the establishment of a new Jewish settlement east of Lake Tiberias constitutes a violation of the armistice pact. The U.N. chairman of the commission joined the Syrian members to form a majority against the Israelis.
Lt. Col. Moshe Dayan, head of the Israel delegation, protested the commission’s interference with normal, peaceful activities of the Israelis in a demilitarized zone. He also took objection to the U.N. chairman’s order permitting Syrian police to remain in Israel territory evacuated by Syrian troops.
