Major General Shmuel Eyal who was until recently the Israeli military attache to England and the Scandinavian countries said here that during his four years of service in England he had signed contracts for the purchase of hundreds of millions of IL Pounds worth of military equipment. He did not reveal the nature of this equipment.
Eyal, 50, is about to retire from army service and is slated by the Labor Party to run for Mayor of Rishon le Zion, a Gahal stronghold. At the press conference marking the termination of his three decades of service, Eyal also revealed that Israel, Britain and the Scandinavian countries had exchanged technical knowledge and that the sale of Israeli-manufactured equipment has been negotiated.
Eyal had been a brigade commander during the War of Liberation, headed the Air Force administration and later became head of civil defense. He was then chief of the Nahal forces, and prior to being appointed to the London post, he was head of the manpower division at the General Headquarters.
