Military court sentences of death, instituted on Nov. 18, 1937, to cope with terrorism in Palestine, were discontinued today.
High Commissioner Sir Harold A. MacMichael explained in a broadcast address that elimination of the death penalty, applying only to offenses committed after June 15, was made possible by the country’s return to normalcy.
Referring to fifth column activities, MacMichael warned that the men and women of Palestine would “unmask these traitors.” Warning against listening to rumors, he concluded by expressing firm belief in the final victory of the Allies.
