An Israeli army inquiry has concluded that a Palestinian shot and killed by soldiers in the Gaza Strip had been trying to plant a bomb near the perimeter fence of a Jewish settlement.
According to the inquiry, the soldiers spotted two Palestinians trying to penetrate the fence late Tuesday night. They opened fire, killing one. The other fled toward the Palestinian Authority self-rule area.
In recent weeks, there have been a number of attempts to plant explosives along the security fence in the Gaza Strip. Palestinian Authority officials rejected the army claim that Palestinians were involved in a terrorist act.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian worker was stabbed to death in the Jewish settlement of Ma’aleh Ephraim, apparently by his Israeli co-worker. Police said the motive for the killing was not yet clear.
The two worked for an Israeli truck driver, who was making a delivery to the settlement. The driver told police that he left the truck for a few minutes. When he returned, he found the Palestinian bleeding from a stomach wound, and the Israeli worker with a knife in his hand.
