Arnold K. Israeli, a Russian-born journalist who was active in the Zionist movement for many years, died today in a Brooklyn hospital at the age of 79.
Born in Berdichev, he attended the St. Petersburg Law School before coming to the United States in 1912. He was Director of Information for the American Zionist Council during World War II. In 1912 he visited South Africa on missions for the World Zionist Actions Committee and was a sergeant in the Jewish Legion in World War I.
His journalistic career included service as an editor of Russian and Yiddish newspapers in New York from 1914 to 1918. He was managing editor of Die Zeit, a daily newspaper published in New York by the Labor Zionist movement. He also had an advertising career, starting with advertising work for General Motors. He was a member of the Zionist Organization of America, B’nai Zion, Farband and the Yiddish Writers Association.
