Elieser Aronowsky, the business representative in Cuba of “Der Tog,” the New York Yiddish daily, and Chaim Cohen, an American citizen temporarily domociled in Havana, have been liberated as the result of a special order made by the Military Commandant, Colonel Rosco, following intervention by the Jewish Center in Havana, and special efforts made by the Hebrew Immigrant Aid and Sheltering Society (HIAS).
Gershon Portnoy, Director of the Havana Jewish Center, who had been arrested and placed at the disposal of the Minister of Interior, has also been released as a result of an order by the Minister.
In view of the fact that Havana is under martial law, the arrest had been regarded with considerable seriousness.
