THOUGH JEWS ARE STILL PERMITTED TO OWN SHOPS IN GERMANY, GERMAN “ARYANS” ARE ADVISED NOT TO DEAL WITH THEM, AND NAZI PARTY MEMBERS AND GOVERNMENT EMPLOYES ARE FORBIDDEN TO DO SO, ACCORDING TO AN ARTICLE IN DEUTSCHE JUSTIZ, ORGAN OF THE GERMAN BAR, BY AN OFFICIAL OF THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE, REPORTED IN A DISPATCH FROM BERLIN TO THE HERALD-TRIBUNE.
IN VIEW OF THE FACT THAT ALL JEWISH-OWNED STORES IN THE REICH HAVE NOT BEEN CLOSED, THE OFFICIAL, HERR FRIEDERICH, OUTLINED THE LAW GOVERNING “ARYAN” PATRONAGE OF SUCH STORES.
HE EXPLAINED THAT THE AUTHORITIES, DESIRING TO AVOID FRICTION AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN WIPING OUT AN “UNDESIRABLE HERITAGE OF THE PAST,” STILL ALLOWED JEWS TO ENGAGE IN BUSINESS, PERMITTING THEM GREATER FREEDOM IN TRADE THAN IN OTHER FIELDS, BUT THAT THIS PRIVILEGE WAS SUBJECT TO RESTRICTIONS.
JEWISH TRADERS, HE WROTE, MUST ACCEPT THE FACT THAT “ARYANS” ARE WARNED NOT TO PATRONIZE THEM AND ALL MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL SOCIALIST PARTY OR PROHIBITED FROM DOING SO.
GERMANS ARE THEREFORE WITHIN THEIR RIGHTS, HE EXPLAINED, IF, BEFORE MAKING A PURCHASE IN A STORE OR OTHER PLACE OF BUSINESS, THEY ASSURE THEMSELVES THAT THE PROPRIETOR IS NOT JEWISH. THIS IS, IN FACT, THE DUTY OF EVERY GERMAN, HERR FRIEDERICH ADDED.
AS TO OFFICIALS AND PARTY MEMBERS, HE WARNED, THEY ARE SUBJECT TO ACTION IN A DISCIPLINARY COURT IF THEY DEAL WITH A JEWISH STORE OR BUSINESS HOUSE, OR PERMIT ANY OF THEIR FAMILY TO DO SO.
