An urn containing the ashes of the remains of the late Aithur Zygelbaum, a Polish Jewish labor leader who committed suicide in London during World War II as a dramatic move to call world attention to the extermination of Jews then under way, was brought to New York yesterday for reinterment. The urn had been kept in a crematorium in London.
Zygelbaum, a representative of the Jewish Socialist Bund in the Polish Government in Exile in London during the war, killed himself so that the world might be apprised of the fact that Polish Jews were being murdered.
A committee representative of the American and Jewish labor movement has been formed here to honor the memory of the martyr. Funeral services will be held in New York prior to the burial of the Zygelbaum ashes.
