To help Jewish Sabbath observers find employment, the Employment Agency of the Council of Young Israel and Young Israel Synagogue Organization has appealed to the Board of Education for the assignment of two teachers to its offices to give vocational instruction to about 150 young men and women applying daily to the bureau. The request has been approved by the Board of Supperintendents, which has recommended that the teachers be assigned there at the opening of the fall term.
In asking for the assistance of the educational authorities, the organization pointed out that the problem of securing a means of livelihood for young Jewish Sabbath observers is a very serious one. During the past year the agency registered nearly 10,000 applicants, but only about 1,000 were supplied with positions.
An average of 150 applicants each day comes at present to the employment bureau. For the guidance of these people the bureau has requested the services of two instructors between the hours of 9 A. M. and 3 P. M.
