State Senator E. Milton Altfeld has requested Major-General Milton A. Reckord, commander of the Twenty-Ninth Division and an American Olympiad committeeman, to use his influence in opposing participation by the United States in the Olympic games to be held in Berlin in 1936.
“While I am conscious of the fact that the Hitler government has promised equal opportunity for all athletes,” Senator Altfeld, who is leader in the sports activities of Maccabean Post, American Legion, said in a letter to General Reckord, “evidence of an apparently authentic nature seems to indicate that the Hitler government does not mean to keep its word.”
