The Assembly of the League of Nations expresses its gratification at the restoration of peace and order in Palestine and voices the hope that the measures taken by the British government may prevent a recurrence of such events as took place in 1929, says the draft of a resolution adopted today by the sixth or political commission of the Assembly for submission to the Assembly.
Hugo Valvanne, substituting for Hjalmar Procope, Finland’s representative on the Assembly, in submitting the resolution, also reported on mandate questions. He said that the sixth commission could not dream of going into details as to the position of the various mandated territories. The commission, he said, noted only a few particular points of special importance.
“It learned with great satisfaction of the improvement in the position of Palestine. In this connection it viewed with gratification the Mandatory Power’s efforts to restore an atmosphere of tranquility and the steps taken to prevent a recurrence of such tragic events as the Assembly had deplored last year,” he said. The report of the sixth commission also pays tribute to the work of the League’s Council, of the Mandates Commission and to the ability and impartiality with which they conducted their proceedings.
