President Lyndon B. Johnson today announced that Philipps Talbot, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, has been appointed American ambassador to Greece. Mr. Talbot had specific responsibility for the Arab-Israel situation, among other regional problems.
He will be replaced by Raymond A. Hare, a career diplomat and veteran of diplomatic assignments in Egypt and other Arab states. The designation of Mr. Hare to fill the position of Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs was simultaneously announced by the President.
