United Hias Service reported today that gale winds and heavy rains failed to dampen the spirits of relatives waiting at Kennedy Airport Thursday night for a TWA jetliner overdue by several hours because of the storm whose passengers included 28 Jewish immigrants, comprising 10 families. Another Soviet Jewish family arrived Friday, Hias officials reported.
The newcomers, all assisted by Hias, the world wide Jewish migration agency, came from five different countries of origin: Russia, Rumania, Poland, Hungary and Libya. Seven of the families are to be resettled in New York, some with the help of the New York Association for New Americans. The others were flown to Cleveland, Cincinnati and Atlanta, where they will be helped in resettlement by local Jewish communal agencies, Hias officials said. Some of the Soviet arrivals entered the United States under the parole authority of the US Attorney General, the migration agency said.
