The American Association for Jewish Education, central coordinating body for Jewish education in the United States, presented last night the Shofar Awards to Louis Nizer, lawyer and author, and Joel Schenker, producer, at a dinner at the Americana Hotel. The dinner was attended by more than 400 educators and laymen from all parts of the country.
The Shofar Award, symbolic of the idea of liberty in Jewish tradition, was presented to the recipients in recognition of their defense of individual freedom as portrayed in Mr. Nizer’s book, “My Life in Court,” and Mr. Schenker’s production of the play, “A Case of Libel,” based on this book. The Association is the parent body of Bureaus of Jewish Education in 43 cities in the United States and Canada.
